Book of the Month

“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.”

This is the opening sentence to one of my favorite books of all time. Can you guess?

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Today happens to be, to the date, 200 years since this classic has been published. It speaks volumes how this book has remained with us and been reread multiple times by fans (myself included, of course). I especially adore the protagonist of this delightful novel. Elizabeth Bennet is a strong and confident woman who doesn’t care about the conventions of her time. She loves her family deeply and carries herself through all the chaos and craziness that comes her way. If she were real, I think she would be the best friend that any girl would want. As for Mr. Darcy, what’s not to like? I think every girl is looking for their very own “Mr. Darcy” (don’t worry girls, he’s out there). From shotgun weddings to psychotic mothers, this book has it all and it was written two centuries ago.

As we come to the end of January 2013, let’s celebrate Jane Austen and her contemporary novel that has resonated with fans of all ages. May we be just like Elizabeth, strong, confident, and ready to take on the world!

For those that haven’t read it, you’re don’t know what you are missing out.
