Our Favorite January Beauty Sets

Want to know the cure to beat flu season and cold-weathered blues? A wonderfully pre-selected beauty set that have bottles of lotions, serums, and concoctions that will give your skin the refreshing boost it needs. It’s easy for our skin and beauty routines to suffer when the weather has you reaching for wool socks to curl up in bed with. So with new resolutions for 2013 made, revamping your beauty routine has its own ritual cleansing in a way. Out with the old and in with the new!

Being a beauty hoarder myself, I just tossed out 15 tubes of mascara after discovering that mascara has a three-month lifespan (I wish they would tell you this at the beauty counter!), I have those tried and true products that I’ve gathered from years of experience and I rarely go outside of that box. So I  find that whenever I introduce some new products into my usual routine, that change actually proves to be quite re-energizing and my skin has definitely reaped the benefits. Although there has been much trial and error along the way, I just have one thing to say – “Thank God for Sephora!”

It wasn’t until last year that I really took the role of being the consumer seriously, we really do have all the power! Don’t be afraid to ask for those samples, it’s your money. And with this economy, we need to be smart about how we spend it. I’m sure many of you have fallen into the same trap that I have, in that you buy a product after reading its too-good-to-be-true description and go home to find it to be sorely disappointing and un-returnable. Tired of always getting the short end of the stick, I marched into Sephora and demanded (nicely) for five foundation samples of some brands that I heard good things about. I took these home, did a two-day test run for each of the foundations, weighed the pros and cons of each, and purchased the winner (Make Up Forever HD mentioned below) with no regrets. The best part came in knowing that I already knew exactly what I would be getting and there would be no surprises along the way.

The quality of the products in each of these gift sets is amazing and you’re really getting a great value for your money; both of these factors are what really pushed these sets into being my personal favorites for January:

  1. Clarin’s Seven Wonders Set – $48  Being valued for $111, you’re getting more than 50% off this luxe travel-friendly package. While traveling, I just pack up this set and I’m good to go! Their Hand & Nail Treatment Cream is perfect to slip into your purse and fights this drying weather. I love the light citrus scent of their One-Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser and you get an exfoliator and daily cleanser all-in-one. However, the Beauty Flash Balm is what sold this set for me; it’s such a great pick-me-up for my skin! I feel that Clarins really put a lot of thought into a woman’s skincare needs and with seven products, Clarins walks you through the initial cleansing to prepping your skin for makeup and finishing it off with a sheer lip gloss that works great with any skin tone. No wonder they call it the Seven Wonders.Screen shot 2013-01-30 at 10.05.34 PM
  2. Sephora’s Make Up Forever HD Complexion Kit – $79  This kit holds two of my favorite products: the HD Primer + the HD Foundation. It comes with a full-sized bottle of foundation in a shade of your choice, a HD Microperfecting Primer, Microfinish Powder, and a Kabuki Brush. With the foundation alone costing $42 and the primer being $34, the cost for both was just a couple dollars shy of this $79 kit. I didn’t mind that the primer was not full-sized because a little really does go a long way! I would highly recommend this primer, it wasn’t oily on my skin and my foundation felt great afterward. Plus, if you order online you get 3 free samples and remember to take advantage of their free weekly deluxe samples because they are always amazing!417YfD9T15L._SL500_SS500_
  3. Ulta Earth Therapeutics RX3 Manicure + Pedicure Deluxe Kit – $17  This was probably one of the best sets I have ever bought. I rave about this kit every chance I get, to my friends…to my sister…to my colleagues…to strangers at the Ulta store…, it’s just really that amazing. Ulta’s great because it’s guaranteed that there will be at least one coupon for you to use, so chances are it’ll be under $17, like it was for me. The manicure set is compact and lightweight, and magnets help keep everything in it’s rightful place. I keep this with me at all times in my purse and it’s perfect for traveling. The tools are sharp yet work gently for cutting cuticles and pesky hangnails.  I was really floored by how much stuff I was getting for the price, and I kept pulling items out of the container like Mary Poppin’s magical bag. With a mere $17, you can easily turn your home into a semi-professional nail salon!BTBLA-2T
  4. Sigma Beauty Mr. Bunny Travel Kit – $65  Sigma Beauty brushes are my favorite brand of brushes to use and they’ve been highly recommended by beauty vloggers and beauty gurus all around! I have their Essential Kit and Mr. Bunny holds miniature versions of their seven essentials in an easy-carry durable leather container that doubles as a brush holder. I love the quality of Sigma brushes and it’s definitely cheaper than some of the brushes that I’ve seen around, yet you get a higher quality than the drugstore ones. Which also work well, I have a mini set for my gym bag, but you really get a different spectrum of results when you use a professional brush. So girls, heading to Vegas and need to look picture perfect? This set really delivers!
