The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein
February is the month of love and for the most part we focus on the romantic love. The kind that makes our hearts skip a beat or fall apart. However for this month I have chosen the Giving Tree because it tells of an unconditional love. A love that requires nothing and is all about sacrifice. This is a book that will always find a place on my bookshelf and is a constant go to when I am reading a good night story to my little sister.
It might be difficult to picture a children’s book holding any relevance to our adult lives, however, just like the boy in the story, we are all constantly striving for the next thing. It might be money, a house, or marriage. These are all very important parts of life. We might, however overlook “the trees” that have supported us and helped us along the way. From mothers, fathers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, and, of course, old friends, we can’t forget the people who made us who we are and have helped us along our way. So, hopefully in this month of love, we will not only look ahead but also look back at the many trees that have been there through it all.
Who are your “Trees”?
