Rajasthan Fashion Week was held from May 9-12, 2013, in Jaipur, India. Though obscure in comparison to the fashion capitals of Paris, London, Milan and New York, its sophomore showcase put Rajasthan in the same league. The forwardness of cutting-edge fashion was very much present, but “a flash of color [and] a dash of glamour” ensured the spirit of India was not overlooked either.
This year, the juxtaposition of past and present was captivating. Picture saris and anarkalis made modern with global-inspired looks for women, and tunics and kurtas in clean and refined looks for men. Rooted in a rich Indian culture, the newly designed traditional garbs still embodied age-old styles revered by generations past. But the runway looks also possessed a young and vibrant freshness that elevate the ethnic styles to an increasingly international world stage.
Seriously, I cannot get enough of the intricate beading, the mix-and-match patterns, and the festival of colors! Readers, are you as enamored with Indian culture as I am? What is your take on ethnic influences in the world of fashion?
