There Is

“There is a girl who still writes you; she
doesn’t know how not to.” A girl
trying to distinguish between ‘there is’
and ‘there was’ but her eyes blur
between the lines – and she – she
loses sight of the line between
is and was, past and present.

There is a girl who still grapples
with time and space; of BC and AD; what
is, what isn’t, what was, what never
was, what never will be; what may
be. Bias, perception, and her own twisted
psychology; feeling lonely versus being alone;
hindsight, foresight, short sight, and not by a long sight.

There is a girl who has lost her foothold
but has not lost sight of her stronghold. A girl
who still cares, but must pretend not to. A girl
who feels anxious but appears collected. A girl
who wants to hold on but knows to first
let go, let live, and let it be. There is
a fifth grade melody she hums… ‘Que Sera, Sera.’

Best,
Phoebe
