O.C’s Habana Makes A Mean Mojito

Across the street from The Camp, The LAB at Costa Mesa acts like the younger sibling of the two outdoor eco-friendly brothers. The LAB feels more indulgent, more adventurous, and the home of one of my favorite restaurants: Habana. Full of rich Cuban flavors, their menu boasts of melt-in-your-mouth Mango BBQ pulled pork sandwiches and their spice encrusted seared ahi tuna (whether in their lunch entree or as an add-on to their organic greens salad) still remains a favorite of mine.

Their Sunday Brunch has become a recent discovery and their churasco skirt steak with chorizo and lime-scented rice is divine. I have not been able to resist and found myself ordering it every time I go there for brunch, despite my desire to explore more of their menu, it’s just that good. But I find myself coming back solely for their handcrafted mojitos and not once was I ever disappointed. It’s hard to find a place that make a consistently good mojito, but I’ve found theirs to be the benchmark that I compare all mojitos too and none have quite ever measured up. Habana’s mojitos are just sweet enough, the citrus zing is muddled perfectly, and they’re still strong enough for cocktail hour. Habana does not disappoint and I recommend you always request for seating in their outdoor patio. Habana is just the perfect accessory to the SoCal weather and their umbrellas and outdoor decor give it an added resort-getaway-vibe that provide you with that much needed escape – even if it’s just for an hour or two.
